Design and development of a new technology for the application of a universal multi-material primer.
This project, developed in collaboration with ORBEA and with the support of the CIDETEC Technology Centre, aims to develop a universal multi-material primer (for aluminium, plastic, magnesium, steel, etc.) that can be applied regardless of the bicycle substrate material.
As part of the project, a new bicycle primer is being developed by optimizing its levelling properties and improving substrate protection. The primer creates a barrier against moisture and condensation, protecting surfaces that are exposed to demanding operating conditions while maintaining an excellent aesthetic finish and a wide range of colours. At the same time, work is being carried out on the industrialization of this technology by designing an automated process for primer application.
The project, carried out during 2020–2021, was funded by the Hazitek Programme of the Basque Government, with support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
